BIO

Born and raised in Oahu, Craig Chee matured as a musician while attending the University of Oregon, developing a teaching style that spans a myriad of genres. He began his musical journey playing cello, and eventually started the ‘ukulele, later studying under legends like Jake Shimabukuro and Troy Fernandez to become a world-renowned performer.

Sarah Maisel, originally from Alabama, was working as a theatrical draper in San Diego when she discovered a local ukulele jam. Captivated by the instrument, she studied under Frank Leong, diving deep into jazz stylings and golden age Hawaii arrangements inspired by Lyle Ritz, Benny Chong, and Byron Yasui, which quickly launched her onto the international festival circuit.

The two discovered a shared passion and work ethic, marrying in 2015 and combining their complementing styles and vocal harmonies to make a massive splash in the ukulele scene. Together, they have been featured on the cover of Ukulele Magazine and have performed at festivals worldwide, from Australia and Japan to Europe and across the US. Their shared love for education led to the launch of their highly successful Online ‘Ukulele School with ArtistWorks in 2016, which eventually expanded into popular public livestreams. In 2020, they pioneered the first virtual “Not so Mini Fest” online ukulele festivals, creating a vital space for global connection and fundraising for participating artists during a challenging year.

In September of 2020, Craig and Sarah relocated home to Hawai‘i with their newborn son, where they hosted the virtual 51st Ukulele Festival Hawaii and launched their own Backyard Concert Series to showcase local talent. Seeking to deepen their impact, they founded the nonprofit Four Strings at a Time in 2023, dedicated to engaging, educating, and enriching lives through music and the ‘ukulele. For their inaugural project, they directed a massive six-hour livestream benefit concert and partnered with The Ukulele Site on a silent auction, raising over $200,000 for Maui wildfire relief. Four Strings at a Time’s programming also includes ‘Ukulele Club Of Hawai’i, ‘Ukulele Summit, and E Hoi’okani Pial (Let’s Play) a pilot program for elementary school ‘ukulele lessons. Their monthly livestreams are still on going, as they continue to spread the love of ukulele and teaching to the world..
